While the streets tonight will be lined with a cavalcade of frightening characters, police are offering tips to help you avoid potentially scary situations.
The RCMP of Newfoundland and Labrador have released a number of tips to help keep everyone safe tonight.
They say to make sure your costume is easily visible, that it fits well to avoid falls and stumbles, and that if you are wearing a mask to make sure your vision is not obstructed.
Trick-or-treaters should travel with friends if parents are not accompanying them. Parents should be aware of the route their child will be taking and inform them of where to get help if needed.
As well kids are reminded to walk on the sidewalk, if there is no sidewalk then walk on the left hand side of the street facing traffic, and to never enter a home and only accept treats at the door.
Drivers are asked to slow down and be extra cautious, and as always to never drive while impaired.
Meanwhile, the RNC is echoing the RCMP’s tips for a safe Halloween.
RNC Media Relations Officer James Caddigan says they will be out to help keep the kids safe.
He says the RNC’s Pumpkin Patrol will be out watching out for the trick-or-treaters. He reminds drivers to slow down and be mindful of the extra foot traffic.
