Members of the Sandwich Bay Retrievers Search and Rescue Team are being thanked for their quick response in locating a snowmobiler who ran into trouble near Cartwright.
RCMP received the call Wednesday evening after a snowmobiler went through the ice on a pond.
Police say within minutes, the search and rescue team assembled and were able to locate the snowmobiler and bring them back to town.
Temperatures at the time were in the -23 range.
Cartwright RCMP say the search and rescue teams quick response was “crucial” in ensuring that the rescue was a success.
In the meantime, police are reminding snowmobilers that ice conditions are not predictable and they asking people heading out on the land to ensure that someone knows your planned route and expected time of return.
