Newfoundland and Labrador has strong representation among the ECMA nominations released today.

The number of award nominees from this province totals 54. The full list was announced this morning at the Rock House in St. John’s.

Kellie Loder, Quote the Raven, The Irish Descendants, The Once and Rum Ragged are among the dozens of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians listed as the ECMAs return to St. John’s this spring.

Kellie Loder, who is nominated in five categories, says they’re blown away.

“After four I kind of got a little light-headed” jokes Loder who missed the fifth nomination. “I wrote my manager and was like ‘do you know how many nominations I got?’ and then one of my best buddies sent me a press release, and I saw it, and it was like ‘okay, it was five.'”

Meanwhile, The federal and provincial governments are providing the East Coast Music Association with $600,000 for its annual awards this year in St. John’s.

The announcement was made this morning at the Rock House.

The capital city is hosting the major music event for the first time in a decade this May.
