The new premier is going to take a hard look at the policing landscape in Newfoundland and Labrador.

As one of last acts, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called for a transformation of the RCMP from community and provincial policing to focusing on federal files such as national security and fentanyl trafficking.

Premier John Hogan, who previously served as justice minister, created a policing transformation group during his tenure.

The proposed budget for this fiscal year calls for an increase in funding for the RNC. Premier Hogan says he will work toward expanding provincial policing province-wide. Last year, the RNC expanded their coverage zone on the west coast.
