The Opposition says government funds allotted to support people with disabilities attending summer camps don’t go far enough.
The government introduced its summer camp inclusion grant last week, offering up to $1,000 for families of children who require support and up to $5,000 for organizations hosting camp programs.
Opposition critic for persons with disabilities, Helen Conway Ottenheimer, questioned the minister responsible, Jamie Korab, about what she says are deficiencies with the program.
“Who does the minister honestly expect to work for that wage,” Conway Ottenheimer asked, “and how is that respectful of the needs of children with disabilities?” Minister Korab says he’s happy to take those concerns back to the department for review.
