The province’s Education Minister is encouraging all post-secondary students in the province to apply for student aid.
Last week, government announced changes to some of its student aid programs to make them more accessible for those in need.
Bernard Davis is encouraging everyone to apply, even if they don’t think they qualify, and to let government decide who is eligible.
Davis says people may be surprised as to who can qualify, noting that it is based on need and not just on other factors such as a parent/guardian’s salary.
“Take a chance to look at us. I don’t want (students) to go to any bank, as much as the banks love to see (them) coming, I don’t want them to be going to that.” Davis argues that students have the chance to save a “significant” amount of money through their programs, noting that many are “dovetailed” with other initiatives through Ottawa.
