Leaders in the Pride community are in Alberta to lobby governments for greater support as world leaders gather for the G7 summit in Kananaskis.
The Pride7 group, which consists of nearly 200 members representing G7 countries, advocates for the rights of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
Helen Kennedy, Executive Director at Egale Canada, says many of the members see Canada as a leader in 2SLGBTQI+ rights.
“Canada now is seen as a more progressive and groups around the world, LGBTI groups in particular around the world, are looking to Canada for support and looking for Canada to take a more leadership role in advancing equity rights and diversity and inclusion,” she told VOCM News.
“We know that the impact of the cuts, the drastic cuts to USAID, have had a major impact on LGBTI groups globally.”
