A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged for alleged sexual assault against a minor.

The RNC received a report on Sunday indicating that a young girl had been walking a trail in the east end of St. John’s with her mother, when she was approached by a man she didn’t know.

After a brief interaction, the man fled on a bicycle.

He was picked up and arrested a short time later by police.

RNC say Conway Whalen has been charged with robbery and sexual assault. He was held in custody pending a court appearance.

According to the RNC, members of the CASA Unit are available to speak with anyone that has information or questions about sexual violence. With a trauma-informed focus, officers educate and inform survivors of their legal and investigative options while also directing them to appropriate resources based on their individual situation or needs.
