The provincial government has awarded the contract for a new school in Labrador.
JMJ Holdings will build the new K-12 high school in Cartwright at an estimated cost of $38.4 million.
The contract includes a three-phase approach: construction of the school and housing for teachers; abatement and demolition of the old school and; development of a new parking lot and sports field.
The new school will replace the existing Henry Gordon Academy, which was built in 1969.
This year’s budget provided $70.5 million for a number of school infrastructure projects, including $55.5 million for new schools in Cartwright, Paradise, Kenmount Terrace, and Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.
