A Canadian space technology company which is developing a commercial spaceport on the Burin Peninsula is hoping to take another stab at Canada’s first commercial space launch by mid-month.
NordSpace, a company based in Markham, Ontario, made a failed attempt to launch its Taiga rocket from St. Lawrence in late August before the optimal weather window closed.

CEO Rahul Goel says they’re ready to launch again as soon they get the authorization.
He says while it was disappointing that the rocket didn’t get launched as planned in late August, but all the fail-safes worked as they should.
“These are complicated machines and oftentimes when you bring them into their operational environment, they take a little bit of time to make sure that they’re all perfect and working. So, for that launch we just had our safety system kick in prematurely, which is a good thing. It kept the rocket safe, it kept everything safe, but it would have been a great launch otherwise.”
He says they’re now looking at the middle of September for another launch attempt as the regulatory process goes through.
“It’s the same flight,” says Goel, “so we’re hoping that comes in pretty quickly so we can all get back to the launchpad.”
