Canadians were given a preview of the federal budget this morning as Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled measures to help with affordability.
The budget comes down November 4th after being postponed in the spring.
The latest measures cover transportation and tourism, school food programs, and low-income earners.
Prime Minister Carney began his news conference in an Ottawa suburb this morning by reiterating steps already taken to reduce expenses such as the elimination of the carbon tax, which resulted in an 18-cent per litre decrease in gas prices.
“We’re launching automatic federal benefits, we’re making the National School Food Program permanent, and we’re renewing the Canada Strong Pass in time for the Christmas holiday period,” said Carney.
Government will provide an additional $216-million a year for school food, a program to which the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador signed on.)
The Canada Strong Pass offers free admission to parks and museums, and discounts for young adults travelling on VIA Rail.
