Water levels are continuing to ease somewhat in Badger, where officials are on flood watch; however, the situation remains concerning and unpredictable.
Mayor Dennis Butt told VOCM Open Line this morning that while water levels are trending downward, they do see regular daily fluctuations.
He says in recent days, they’ve seen a drop in water levels from midnight to mid-afternoon, but from mid-afternoon to evening, they rise again.
“Some of the gain that we achieve overnight, we lose throughout the day. The last three days the decrease is still greater than the increase, but obviously it’s happening a lot slower than what we would like, and the levels are still high. (They’re) still hovering around just below the one in 20 year flood levels.”
He says there are some 110 homes and 180 residents currently registered with the Canadian Red Cross and staying in hotels and other shelters, with others staying with family and friends.
A boil water advisory remains in place for those still in Badger.
