Everything is back to normal this morning on the electrical grid following a few hours of upset yesterday.
A trip on the Labrador Island Link at about 5:00 knocked out power to about 70,000 customers across the island, just at a time when the streets were at their busiest. Malfunctioning traffic signal systems created gridlock in busy urban areas such as metro.
Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro went into “load shedding” mode to prevent further trouble, but restoration began almost immediately.
Such outages are normally quite brief, but a few pockets of customers had to wait a couple of hours before being reintegrated into the system.
