The snow tally in metro is 30 cm – and counting.
It began as a gentle snowfall last night but picked up intensity overnight and this morning.
The Southern Shore Highway has reopened, but travel is not recommend on it and many other roads on and off the Avalon, including the Burin Peninsula Highway and the Outer Ring.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Road conditions across the island of Newfoundland are very poor, as snow and high winds continue.

Visibility is nil in some areas with winds gusting to 80-90. Another 5-10 cm of snow is expected through the afternoon but it will taper off and winds will ease to 50 tonight.
There are isolated power outages, including one in the area of Torbay Road.
Many flights have been cancelled at YYT, and Metrobus/Go Bus is parked until at least lunchtime.
