The minister of justice has received a report from the working group on recent court closures in the province and expects to release the results this Thursday.
A working group was struck after the abrupt closure of a number of courts last November including circuit courts in Baie Verte and Port aux Basques, while civil hearings, traffic hearings and Contraventions Act cases for court in St. John’s, Grand Falls-Windsor and Stephenville were adjourned indefinitely.
Minister Helen Conway Ottenheimer was responding to questions in the House of Assembly by the Opposition’s Pam Parsons.
She received a presentation, containing “comprehensive findings” last Thursday. The minister says she will be releasing that information publicly later this week and government is looking at short, medium and long term goals in addressing what she calls “years of neglect.”
