Government House Leader Lloyd Parrott had to withdraw a previous comment in the House of Assembly in which he called the Opposition a “bunch of fools.”
The comment was raised on a Point of Order by MHA Jamie Korab.
Parrott told the Speaker he stood by his comments yesterday, but Paul Lane today determined that Parrott’s comments were unparliamentary.
Parrott unequivocally withdrew the comment.
In the meantime, Speaker Paul Lane, in rejecting a separate Point of Order raised by Parrott, took the time to admonish members of the House for “trivial and childish” behaviour.
“Quite frankly, I’m getting tired of addressing these types of issues, and we are wasting a lot of the House’s time, and certainly my staff, that have to research these matters for me, we have to have meetings on it, discussions, write up the orders and so on. It’s a complete waste of time for my staff, myself and this whole House of Assembly dealing with these kind of trivial, often childish matters.”
“So I ask all members to bear that in mind as we move forward.”
