The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society says if they can make a folk festival happen this year, it will look very different.
The society has announced a fundraising concert for June 7th, the proceeds from which will help them address their debt and get the organization on stable financial ground.
Interim Board Chair Jean Hewson says they are looking at different sources of funding right now, and when they get that figured out they will know more about how feasible it will be to hold the musical gathering this year.
“If we do have a folk festival in the park, it’s going to look somewhat different, I think, from what it looked like in the past. It will not be at the same scale at all. And if sources of funding take some time or don’t quite pan out for this year, we might just be there with a couple of milk crates and a bullhorn in the park and some guitars. But we’re kind of committed to making sure that it happens, however much time it takes and whatever obstacles are put in our way. We’re taking it one step at a time.”
