There has been a lot of talk of late about so-called “trap houses” – properties that become magnets for criminal and disruptive activity – with added pressure on the provincial and municipal governments to take greater action to address the problem in certain neighbourhoods.
There are a number of notorious properties in and around the metro area.
Among them is one in Mount Pearl, which the city says the RNC is aware of. The city says municipal enforcement has been in contact with NL Housing which is also aware of the situation.
The city says Mount Pearl does have noise by-laws and property maintenance regulations that are complaint-driven.
Residents are encouraged to notify police about potential criminal activity, and if there are noise or property concerns, to contact city hall.
The provincial government has promised action on neighbourhood drug houses.
