DFO is asking people doing activity around the water to be mindful of fish habitat.
It’s the time of year when many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians go to the cabin and do whatever has to be done, but DFO says it’s a good idea to check their website before embarking on projects such as fixing up a dock, doing shoreline work, or tackling major maintenance around the property.
Blair Thorne, a senior biologist with DFO, says unintentional damage to fish habitat can happen fast.
“Even getting access to the cabin may involve crossing a river or whatnot,” says Thorne.
