Relations between those at Memorial University who prepare young adults for the work world, and the employer have gone even frostier.
The association which represents faculty fought for years to have membership on the Board of Regents, the decision-making arm of the university. They won that privilege on a temporary basis three years ago with the appointment of two representatives on the board.
Dr. Lisa Moores, President of MUNFA, says the appointments were made in order to give the government time to properly update the Memorial University Act and ensure regular representation on the board as is done at other universities in Canada.
However, MUNFA says the changes have not been made, so its two members have resigned from the board, effective immediately.
She says her colleagues on the board have found its impossible to provide the transparency and accountability that they feel the public has a right to expect.
