The Association for New Canadians is planning to create a new position aimed at breaking the stigma around youth mental health.
Ten young people will work with others their age at curbing the stigma of mental health and, in some cases, steer their peers towards mental health services.
Kaveh Parsi says the workers would help someone having a bad day meet with a medical professional.
“They (could be) doing an intervention when someone passing, not crisis, but bad situation, low mood. They can talk with them and prepare them to go and see (a) specialist,” he told VOCM News
We are talking to each other now, but sometimes it’s not useful. We will train them to be useful. For example, they can settle the situation and refer them to see a psychologist.”
