Negotiations have resumed with Quebec on reaching a Memorandum of Understanding on Churchill Falls.
Premier Tony Wakeham says talks between the province’s negotiating team and Hydro Quebec formally began on Tuesday.
Wakeham says he spoke with Quebec Premier Christine Frechette on Monday ahead of the resumption in talks.
He called it a “good conversation.” Now, they are going to let their negotiating teams do the work and take it from there.
Reports suggest that Quebec officials hope to have a deal reached by the end of July.
When asked whether he believes Quebec is pushing to meet that timeline, Wakeham was unworried.
“It’s not a matter of what Quebec pushes or we push…we’re at the table, we’ve set the table, and now it will be up to Quebec (and) whether they want to come to the table.”
