Premier Tony Wakeham supports the federal government’s Safe Social Media Act.
When the bill becomes law, which is still a ways away, social media companies will have to restrict access to their sites from those under the age of 16. Those companies can apply for exemptions if sufficient safeguards are put in place.
Last month, a Private Members’ resolution was introduced by the Liberals at the provincial level, looking for similar provincial legislation.
Premier Tony Wakeham addressed the status of provincial legislation now that the federal bill has been introduced.
He says they will let the federal government take the lead on the file, noting that there is still “a lot of work to be done.”
