The federal government’s Bail and Sentencing Reform Act is now law, designed to make communities across the country safer by making bail stricter, and toughening sentencing on serious crime.

Federal Justice Minister Sean Fraser made the announcement today, and outlined some of the areas of concern as identified by communities across Canada.

“Whether that’s auto theft, or home invasion, whether it’s extortion, whether it is trafficking or whether it is assault or sexual assault. This bill… was not designed behind closed doors… it’s strength is really from the source of collaboration that we’ve had from different partners from across the country.”
