Many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians shook their heads in disbelief following a recent stunt off the coast of Twillingate.
Canadian high diver and social media personality Molly Carlson recently dove off the edge of an iceberg grounded near Twillingate and into the frigid water below as part of a Red Bull Challenge.
Icebergs, which are notoriously dangerous, can founder, break or turn over with little-to-no notice. Those in boats are frequently warned to keep a safe distance from them.
The superintendent of Maritime Search and Rescue with the Canadian Coast Guard, Phil Walker, says they were aware of the stunt.
Carlson had a full entourage to ensure her safety, but he discourages anyone from trying a similar stunt.
He says it’s not the Coast Guard’s mandate to stop those kinds of things from happening, however he discourages anyone from trying to mimic that situation. “It may not end well.”
