Protests continue in Cartwright where the provincial government recently cancelled the contract for construction of a new school.
Residents want to know what will happen next.
Area MHA Lisa Dempster says residents had been seeking a meeting with the minister or department officials to get answers, but to no avail.
She says the correspondence has been respectful, but she told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan she’s “at a loss” as to why they never got their meeting. Instead, government issued a release outlining the reasons for the decision.
Infrastructure Minister Barry Petten says residents have refused to allow contractors near the site.
Petten says he doesn’t respond to ultimatums.
“I told Mayor Holwell directly that I had no problem meeting with him and discussing the possibilities of a new school.”
“I don’t meet on conditions. They need to be respectful. “
