There may be a few more options when it comes to buying a cut of beef at the meat counter in the near future.
Beef has become one pricey commodity over the last few years, mainly due to a surge in cattle prices.
Sylvain Charlebois of the Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University says Canada may soon allow beef from other countries to be sold at local supermarkets.
He says beef from countries like Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia would offer much cheaper options for consumers. It may also be a good thing for those who only want to buy Canadian beef as the competition may drive overall prices down.
