The minister of transportation, saying speeding in construction zones has gone unchecked for too long, plans to erect a speed camera at the Foxtrap Access Road overpass.
Drivers have been venting their frustration over construction delays on the TCH in the area, which resulted in substantial delays over the weekend.
Government addressed the situation on social media on Monday, saying cuts in the pavement had been made to slow traffic through the construction zone. Those have since been filled in.
Transportation Minister Barry Petten says workers felt unsafe in the area and did “the right thing in their heart” by making the cuts, but it was “not the option”.

“I asked to get the cuts filled in. We are working on getting a speed camera so people (should) be aware that we’re going to try to catch those speeders. I’m very concerned about that so that’s something that we’re going to look at,” he told VOCM News.
“There’s a lot of arm-chair critics out there that criticize us for poor planning but I don’t know if you can plan for people that are not playing by the rules and I’m disappointed to see that people cannot respect these work sites on the highway.”
Meanwhile, government is advising of a number of lane closures continuing today near the Foxtrap Access Road overpass.
There will be periodic westbound and eastbound lane closures in the area to install jersey barriers.
Officials say the work should be finished later this afternoon.
