Parents are only now learning of some other aspects of the new CorCare digital health system implemented a couple of months ago in Newfoundland and Labrador. According to a memo sent out this week, parents will have limited, or in some cases no, access to their child’s health information.
Parents have unrestricted access to the files of children under 12 so there’s no change there, but they can only access health information on kids between 12 and 15 if the child allows. Adults have no right to peer into the medical history of anyone 16 or older.
The new rules were sent out in a mass email, but the Liberals say the information should have been explained by government leadership, and parents should have been consulted.
The opposition Liberals say government should be removing barriers to care, not creating more red tape that makes it more difficult for families to access and coordinate health information.
