There have been no arrests made in that frightening attack on a walking trail in Mount Pearl in broad daylight Friday.
A woman was accosted by a man who she did not know at about 9:30 that morning. She was slightly injured in the robbery, and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
RNC blanketed the Carroll Drive area with drones, dogs and officers on all-terrain vehicles to try and find the suspect, who brandished a weapon at his victim.
The robber, who ran off in the direction of Richard Nolan Drive, is Caucasian, tall and thin, and was wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
Mayor Dave Aker says the trails are safe but it’s not a bad idea to buddy up.
Municipal enforcement officers were also patrolling the trails on bicycles over the weekend.
He says most of the trails have some lighting and they’re continuing to add more.
“There’s also talk of more cameras,” says Mayor Aker, “but I think there is something like 60 or 70 kilometres of trail and close to add entry points. We do have ten people on security patrol but it’s impossible to have someone on every corner just as it’s not possible to have an RNC officers on every trail,” says Mayor Aker.
The RNC is asking anyone who was in the area of the Admiralty Walking Trail between 9:00 and 10:00 that morning to contact them.
The city itself says there is no place for violence in the community, and it will continue to improve lighting and safety.
Mayor Aker encourages people to turn out for their “Safe Trail Walk” tomorrow night, which is part of their recreation program.
