The Women’s Junior A Hockey League is renaming its season-long trophy in honour of a 19-year-old player who died in a motorcycle crash last week.
Stacey-Lynn Kenny and her father, Corey, were killed last Monday after their motorcycle collided with a moose in Aquaforte.
Stacey-Lynn played in the league last season, making a comeback to the ice after a lengthy hospitalization the year prior.
The league’s president, Donny Gosse, who also coached Kenny, says the championship hardware will now be known as the Kenny Cup.
A pre-game ceremony to honour her memory will be held at the league’s season opener this fall.
