The use of AI in art has been a hot topic of late as artists consider the implications of the technology on the work they do.

While some artists are embracing AI, many concerns remain.

Business and Arts NL is hosting two focus groups in August to help address some of those concerns and foster greater AI literacy among those in the creative community.

Executive Director Amy Henderson says the workshops will include conversations on the proper and ethical use of AI in art.

Henderson says there are artists in the community and people in the world who are really cautious about the fact that a lot of AI has been trained on the “intellectual property of people who are not being compensated for their work”

“There is major unequal economic impact in place here, so using it feels like feeding into a system that feels out of our control.” she said, “and then erodes value of creativity, authenticity and the impact on people’s psychological well-being.”
