Snoopers beware – the Privacy Commissioner is recommending that the name of the person doing the prying be released to the person they’ve been snooping on.

The recommendation comes after someone notified NLHS of a privacy breach. It turns out that curiosity got the better of an employee, who accessed the private health information of a patient.

The privacy commissioner says NLHS took the appropriate action, but she recommends going a step further and releasing the name of the snooper to the person affected

Her argument is that the person involved knows the full impacts of the privacy breach, and they should know the identity of the person who is overly curious in their life.

Kerry Hatfield recommends that NLHS release the snooper’s name and the discipline they received to the person affected, and that the health authority consider implementing a policy to inform affected people of the names of those who intentionally, and wrongly, access their personal health information.
