A man who tried to get away from officers on his own two feet ended up spending the night behind bars.

Just before midnight, a woman called about an assault at her home in downtown St. John’s. When officers arrived, the man had already left the scene.

About an hour later, he returned and the woman phoned police again – this time, officers witnessed the man bolt out the back door and down the street.

Police ran after him and ended up arresting the 42-year-old at a home nearby.

He faces charges of assault and breach of a release order.
