Swimmers and outdoor lovers at Gros Morne National Park are being warned about the presence of a parasite responsible for an uncomfortable problem.
Gros Morne National Park says swimmer’s itch has been reported at Trout River Pond.
The parasite is a common, naturally occurring condition in freshwater throughout North America.
There are no serious health concerns, however the itching can be uncomfortable.
Swimmers are being advised to watch for a tingling sensation shortly after getting out of the water, small red spots and itching.
Treatment can include topical medication or antihistamines.
