Premier Tony Wakeham will be sitting down with stakeholders affected by the trade war with the United States once he returns from Norway.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour, the official opposition, and NDP have called on the premier to reconvene the tariff roundtable that had been established under the former premier Andrew Furey.

In a statement to VOCM News, Wakeham says he wrote to “partners who help drive (the province’s) economy” to tell them that he was monitoring developments, and inviting them to share actual or anticipated fallout of the trade war.

Wakeham will sit down with all the players to discuss individual concerns and Canada’s response to the trade war when he returns from the Offshore Northern Seas Conference.

The province says the meeting will be scheduled to give people time to assess the federal government’s response, and will focus on identifying challenges, mitigating impacts, and ensure people’s interests are protected.
