Prime Minister Mark Carney is warning Canadians that times are going to get tough as new retaliatory tariffs kick in.
In his latest taped address to the public, he says Canada is making moves to become more economically-independent and less reliant on trade with an increasingly erratic U.S. administration.
The Prime Minister says in many ways increased American aggression forced Canada to come “to life” citing a variety of historic examples.
Carney warns however that the current trade war is not going to be easy for Canadians.
“And I won’t pretend otherwise, but Canadians have faced difficult stretches before and what’s carried us through has never, ever been just one measure. It’s always been Canadians looking out for each other.”
He cited the decisions made by Canadian consumers and travelers as among the most powerful…”decisions taken at the kitchen table, not the boardroom table.”
