Enrollment is one of Memorial University’s top priorities as the number of students signing up for MUN drops.
President Janet Morrison says the “enrollment trajectory” at MUN has contracted in recent years, in part, because of a drop in foreign students.
There are 2,000 fewer students at MUN this semester compared to previous years.
MUN is grappling with a significant deficit and has made a number of changes to address the shortfall including the elimination of more than 100 positions and plans to sell assets including the Signal Hill and Harlow campuses.

Morrison says it’s important for Memorial to ensure that enrollment is bolstered. That’s why she’s particularly pleased with a new pilot program to help first year students with their math skills.
She believes fostering the confidence of students is an important step forward and is one of a number of initiatives to help bolster enrollment.
