The finance minister is clarifying what he says is some public confusion around the planned 15 per cent electricity rebate.
Craig Pardy says the rebate is not part of the new Churchill Falls MOU, but it does “piggyback” on it.
He says implementing the rebate is contingent on the final Churchill Falls agreements being signed.
Once the deals have been finalized, Pardy says the rebate would kick in very quickly.
He says if the agreement is signed in December, then the rebate will be applied to people’s electricity bills beginning in January.
