The provincial government is introducing universal screening for children in elementary school to help identify those who may need additional learning support.
The screening will be introduced in Kindergarten and grade one for children using Acadience Reading in both English and French.
The assessments are designed to measure early literacy and assess the foundational skills needed to become better readers.
Meanwhile, universal mathematics screening tools are being introduced in grades one and two, which will help identify early indicators of learning challenges in that subject.
