Lockheed Martin is investing $5.6 million in St. John’s-based Avalon Holographics.

The aerospace giant plans to use the local company’s technology for its River-class destroyer program and its submarine command and control system contracts.

This latest funding follows an initial $6.1 million investment, with Lockheed Martin noting that Avalon’s technology is the first of its kind.

The company says the holographic displays will allow them to bring digital 3D models to life without the need for glasses or headsets, helping them better understand complex designs.
