St. John’s City Council continues to work through an application which could eventually result in a large housing development off Southlands Boulevard.

It converted the bulk of the land from commercial to R2 (residential) to accommodate residential development, and is going through the various approvals required provincially and municipally.

A total of 86 semi-detached housing units are proposed for the area.

At last week’s meeting, Councillor Tom Davis moved a motion to appoint a representative to oversee the public hearing phase.

“The tentative date is October 7, and it’s recommended that Cliff Johnson be appointed to conduct the hearing. If no submissions are received up to two days before the hearing date, the city may cancel the hearing,” Davis said.
