The Churchill Falls MOU may have passed in the House of Assembly, but Liberal leader John Hogan hopes the premier will take the concerns raised during the process back to leadership in Quebec.

The vote was far from unanimous, with a 21-18 split in those for and against the document.

Hogan states that while Tony Wakeham and his caucus supported the deal, he hopes that he has listened to the concerns of those that are opposed as government heads into the negotiation of definitive agreements.

He hopes that he goes to the premier of Quebec, whoever that may be in a couple of weeks, and explains to them that 18 members in a 40 person assembly did not support the deal – and outline the specific reasons why.

NDP leader Jim Dinn voted nay, but does say they have achieved some “wins.”

He says government has indicated that the final agreements will be brought back to the House of Assembly – though what exactly that will look like has not been clarified, and he says there is “movement” on having the PUB involved in the new oversight committee.
