Two people have been charged with drunk driving after two separate crashes this week on the Avalon Peninsula in which vehicle met building.

Last Sunday night an officer was flagged down by a concerned citizen in Ferndale giving information about an accident on Ferndale Road.

RCMP say a car slammed into a house, causing extensive damage to both. The driver, a 72-year-old woman from Dunville, was not seriously injured and had been taken in by residents of the house. Police say she seemed to be impaired, so she was taken to the Placentia Health Centre for a blood sample. Officers seized the vehicle and took her licence, but are awaiting lab results to see whether she was impaired.

At about 8:00 Thursday night, a vehicle ran into a shed on Main Road in Jerseyside. A 63-year-old woman from Freshwater was arrested after police noticed signs of impairment and saw open alcohol in the vehicle. She refused the breathalyzer and was charged accordingly.
