A recent survey shows that a third of Atlantic Canadians admit that it would be difficult for them to manage their financial obligations if their paycheque was delayed by a week.

The National Payroll Institute released the results of its 2026 Survey of Working Canadians today.

It shows that more than half Atlantic Canadians asked say the price of groceries is their greatest source of financial stress.

The survey also found that more than half (55 per cent) of all working Atlantic Canadian now spend all or more of their net pay.

President of the National Payroll Institute, Peter Tzanetakis says everyday living costs have been identified as the top stressor for respondents.

He says that includes groceries and household products . “It really is hitting the household budget significantly.”
