Discussions are still ongoing, but the education minister believes “most, if not all” of the daycare operators who threatened to pull out of the operating grant program will not be following through with that action.
Paul Dinn met with members of the advocacy group NL Childcare Licensees yesterday.
The members of that group had previously said they would be pulling out of the program, which funds the $10-a-day system, due to issues with changes to it.

Dinn says his meeting with the group went well, and while he didn’t receive a definite answer, he did feel assured coming out of it.
“I think I got assurance there today that that they’re pleased with the discussion and pleased with where we’re going and some of the meetings we’re having coming up, which will go beyond the October 1st date that they’ve indicated. So I suspect that many, if not all will be still on board as we continue with these discussions.”
