The Board of Trade recently welcomed a group of ambassadors from Scandinavia and other Nordic countries as part of ongoing efforts to build business connections with Europe.

Canada was recently invited to become an “associate member” of the European Union as trade alliances and partnerships shift in the wake of a trade war and deteriorating relationship with the United States.

The Board of Trade recently welcomed the ambassadors of Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway to the capital city region.

Board of Trade CEO AnnMarie Boudreau says discussion centered around trade, energy, mining, transportation and defence as well as “shared priorities.”

She says the conversations had were underscored by the changing geo-political landscape. She credits the recent efforts made by Prime Minister Mark Carney in strengthening trade relationships with other nations. “I think the timing of this was perfect.”

The Board of Trade says Newfoundland and Labrador has a unique role to play in enhancing international relationships as Canada pursues “meaningful opportunities” with global partners.
