Applications for support programs for low-income households will be accepted starting October 1.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation will begin accepting applications this week for a home repair program, as well as a home modification program.

Announced in the budget in May, the provincial government has doubled the funding available through homeowner support for low-income households.

For home repairs, the income threshold is around $42,000 ($65,000 in Labrador.) The waiting time to reapply has also been reduced from seven years to five.

For home modifications, the threshold is around $51,000 ($65,000 in Labrador.)

The other changes include eliminating the need for recommendations from an occupational therapist for minor renovations and upgrades, and removing the requirement for pre and post inspections for all home repairs.
