U.S. President Donald Trump is predicting that Canada will come to Washington seeking an end to the trade war in the next few weeks.
Trump made the comments to reporters in the Oval Office yesterday, reiterating claims that Canada is the “worst country” to deal with and that Ottawa is cheating the United States.
An import ban on certain Canadian goods including alcohol, dairy byproducts, and molasses comes into effect today.

“They’re going to come in, and they’re going to say ‘sir, we are sorry.’ They treated the United States very, very badly. I think a deal will be made, but it’s going to be a fair deal.”
Senior counselor for trade and manufacturing to the president, Peter Navarro, repeated Trump’s familiar refrain on Canada’s perceived mistreatment of the United States.
“They were the most difficult and arrogant of the traders,” claimed Navarro. “They cheat us on just about everything they can; lumber, aluminum, steel, dairy….the worst part now is they’re getting in bed with China, trying to play China against us…and they like to beat up on Donald Trump. They think politically that works. The only people that get hurt by that are the people of Canada “
