The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it is “extremely concerning” to see recent online videos showing a number of vehicles not stopping for a school bus.

Videos recently posted to social media show several vehicles driving by on Thorburn Road, a four-lane route, while a school bus was stopped with lights flashing and arm extended.

One of the vehicles that drove by, in the outside lane on the opposite side of the road, was another school bus.

Constable Steph Myers says drivers need to be cautious, especially during times when they know school buses will be on the roads.

She believes more public education on the rules is needed.

She underscores that it is illegal to pass a school bus that has its lights flashing and stop arm extended, and that all lanes of traffic – even on four lane roads – must come to a halt.
